The Danish scientist Hans Christian Ørsted was driven by curiosity, dedication and an interest in nature. These are the values and approach to science that the H.C. Ørsted Selskabet and the energy company Ørsted would like to promote with four new scholarships amounting to DKK 50,000 each.
“We want to pay tribute to Hans Christian Ørsted’s name and achievements – both in Denmark and worldwide. For this reason, we'll use these four new scholarships to support young people who'd like to see the world and, through their studies, represent the values that Hans Christian Ørsted embodied. Young people who can help carry on Hans Christian Ørsted’s inquisitive approach and dedication to both science and the humanities,” says Troels Krøyer, chairman of the H.C. Ørsted Selskabet.
Hans Christian Ørsted’s curiosity and dedication led, among other achievements, to his discovery of electromagnetism, which is the basis of how we generate power today.
Bachelor’s or master’s degree students
The scholarships are intended for students travelling abroad as part of their study programme. In order to be considered, you have to be enrolled on a humanities or science study programme, and you must be in the final year of your bachelor’s degree or currently undertaking your master’s degree.
Based on the applications, the award committee will select four students, each of whom will receive DKK 50,000. The four students selected are also invited to an awards ceremony to be held on 14 August in the town of Hans Christian Ørsted’s birth, Rudkøbing on the Danish island of Langeland.
“We're looking forward to awarding the scholarships together with H.C. Ørsted Selskabet. In addition to being a tribute to one of the greatest scientists Denmark has ever produced, the scholarships also support the knowledge and skills we need to create a world that runs entirely on green energy,” says Jakob Bøss, Head of Strategy and Communications at Ørsted.
Interested students must apply for the scholarship by 14 May at the latest.
The scholarships are awarded by the H.C. Ørsted Selskabet and the energy company Ørsted. In addition to scholarships, the two organisations also collaborate on the 'Forskerspireprisen' research award and the Hans Christian Ørsted award, which will also awarded on 14 August. You cannot apply for these awards.
