Our projects in Taiwan

Our offshore wind projects

We are firm believers in the massive potential that wind energy holds as a renewable energy source, and we hope to see offshore wind powering hundreds of millions of homes globally in future. In Taiwan, there are currently five offshore wind projects under development, construction, and in operation, including:

Formosa 1

Ørsted is the biggest shareholder and co-owner of Taiwan’s first commercial-scale offshore wind project, Formosa 1, which was extended from a capacity of 8 MW to 128 MW in 2019.

Greater Changhua 1 and 2a

The Greater Changhua 1 and 2a offshore wind farms are located 35-60 km off the coast of Changhua County. Completed in 2024, the two wind farms have a combined capacity of approx. 900 MW to provide renewable energy to one million households.

Greater Changhua 2b and 4

Ørsted was awarded the 920 MW Greater Changhua 2b and 4 offshore wind farms in June 2018. A corporate power purchase agreement was signed with Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company Limited (TSMC) in July 2020. The Greater Changhua 2b and 4 offshore wind farms are expected to be completed by the end of 2025.
