DONG Energy reducing staff

As announced on 27 October 2009, DONG Energy has decided to adjust production capacity at its Danish power stations as a result of declining demand for power. Unfortunately, this adjustment of production capacity and other measures to reduce costs will also entail staff reductions. The management of the business area DONG Energy Power today presented a plan involving a reduction in the number of jobs by approximately 275. The reductions will primarily affect the Danish power stations, the engineering positions in Power and technical support. “This is an unfortunate situation, and we will offer the affected employees assistance to help them move on,” said Niels Bergh-Hansen, Executive Vice President, DONG Energy. Management and the trade unions will together organise the process with a view to notifying the affected employees by the end of November. On 27 October, DONG Energy announced its plans to shut down two Danish power station units with effect from 1 April 2010. This will take total capacity of 980 MW out of production, corresponding to 18 per cent of DONG Energy's thermal power station capacity and 14 per cent of the company's combined output capacity at the end of 2009. The information provided in this announcement will not change the previous financial guidance for the financial year 2009 or the expected investment level.
