Love your home – Act now
At Ørsted, we want to help speed up green action globally.
Every person, business, investor and country can contribute to the systemic change required to meet the necessary carbon reduction.
We all have the responsibility to take action and show love for our home.
Our home is at risk
Our shared home, planet Earth, is a beautiful and amazing place. A home where we’ve felt welcomed, safe, nourished and loved. But climate change is happening.
We are already starting to see the damaging impacts of global warming on our home. Scientists have concluded that an increase in global temperatures above 1.5 °C will have catastrophic effects and put the everyday life that we know at risk.
To ensure we do not reach this critical tipping point, the world must reduce carbon emissions
by 50% by 2030 and reach net zero emissions by 2050. The world is not on track to meet this
Together, we must show love for our home and scale up green action globally.
The hard facts
Energy from fossil fuels is the biggest contributor to climate change and accounts for 73% of global emissions.
To limit global warming to 1.5 °C and protect our home, the world must phase out using fossil fuels and focus on building-out green energy, which today only accounts for 11% of the world’s energy use.
The percentage of green energy consumption must increase significantly to reduce global emissions by 50% by 2030.
Let's act – It's time to speed up green energy
To speed up green action, we need to build-out green energy, such as solar and wind, globally and quickly. Individual lifestyle changes such as recycling and commuting to work on public transport are a great first step.
But, it’s not enough to meet the 50% by 2030 target, because emissions from fossil fuels are a by-product of almost everything you do; heating your home, turning on the oven, travelling by plane, making a call, and shopping online.
We need to change the energy system from relying on fossil fuels to using renewable, green
energy. And, there is good news.
We already know the solutions needed to speed up green action and transition to green
energy. Wind and solar power are now cheaper than power from fossil fuels and can become
the backbone of the world’s energy system.
By building out green technologies on a global scale and phasing out fossil fuels, we can
create a world that runs entirely on green energy.
