You need XL monopiles for XL turbines. At EEW in Rostock, Germany, they are now working on the 940 tonnes XL monopiles that will be deployed at DONG Energy’s offshore wind farms Gode Wind 1 and 2. See the photos here.

The 66.5 meter long monopiles have a diameter of 7.5 meter and a total weight of 940 tonnes.

According to schedule, the monopiles will be rammed into the seabed during 2015.

The Gode Wind offshore wind farms have a total capacity of 582MW and will be able to supply CO2-free electricity corresponding to the annual consumption of approximately 600,000 German households.
