As operator, DONG Energy has performed appraisal drilling in the Solsort licence (03/09) situated in the Danish sector of the North Sea. The aim was to gain more knowledge on the size and quality of an oil discovery made in 2010 in the adjacent licence 04/98. An appraisal well with side tracks was drilled in order to define the size of the discovery and an extensive data collection programme has been carried out.
"The Solsort licence looks promising. Hopefully, our efforts will eventually lead to new Danish production, but first we are to analyse the findings and decide on the way forward together with our partners," said Flemming Horn Nielsen, Country Manager of DONG Energy’s Danish oil and gas business.
Solsort was drilled to a depth of 3156 metres below sea level. The drilling was carried out without incidents, and the well has been permanently plugged.
The licence is owned by DONG Energy (35% and operator), Bayerngas (30%), Nordsøfonden (20%) and VNG (15%).
