Borkum Riffgrund 3 shows what offshore wind can deliver for Germany and Europe: secure, homegrown renewable energy at scale, greater planning certainty for industry, jobs and economic activity across the supply chain, and innovation that reduces environmental impacts. Located around 50 km from Borkum, Ørsted’s largest offshore wind farm in Germany has 83 turbines and a total installed capacity of 913 MW. It is expected to generate around 4 TWh of electricity per year – enough to cover the electricity needs of 900,000 average German households.

The report explores how Borkum Riffgrund 3 strengthens energy security while supporting the decarbonisation of major industrial customers through long-term corporate power purchase agreements. It also examines the project’s wider contribution to European value creation and highlights advances such as OSONIC, a low-noise foundation installation method designed to reduce underwater noise.
