DONG Energy signs agreement on Dutch LNG terminal

DONG Energy has 17 December concluded an agreement with Gate terminal B.V. in the Netherlands that gives DONG Energy the option to import liquefied natural gas (LNG) to Europe in the future. The agreement provides DONG Energy import capacity up to 3 billion m3 of natural gas per year for a period of 20 years commencing 2011. A terminal will be built in the Port of Rotterdam, from where the gas will be transported onwards into the Dutch gas transmission system. In addition to the capacity agreement, DONG Energy has acquired a 5 per cent stake in the terminal. ”The agreement with Gate terminal B.V. will enable us to supplement our pipe-based natural gas supplies from Denmark, Norway, UK and Russia with natural gas from other parts of the world, further allowing us to diversify our sources of supply and ensure flexibility in the future”, says DONG Energy CEO Anders Eldrup.
