Responsible business partner program

The Responsible Business Partner Programme (RPP) enables Ørsted to collaborate with suppliers and joint venture partners to improve the social, environmental and ethical performance of our supply chain.

Before we enter relationship with other business partners, such as JV partners or CPPA clients, we identify the ESG risks of the business partners, and conduct assessment (including human rights impacts) of high-risk business partners.

Our Code of Conduct for Business Partners is the foundation for our continuous engagement and effective dialogue with our partners.

Our guiding principles for engaging with suppliers

Continuous improvement

We expect our suppliers to engage in a process to verify that their systems and procedures meet the expectations set out in our Code of Conduct for Business Partners, address areas of weak performance and continuously identify opportunities for improving performance.

Supply chain responsibility

We work with our suppliers to help improve the sustainability performance throughout our supply chains. We recommend our suppliers to apply similar criteria as outlined in our Code of Conduct for Business Partners with their own suppliers and contractors.

Collaboration

We choose to work together with our suppliers to improve our sustainability performance by supporting them in improving theirs. If relevant, we will collaborate in identifying actions towards improving social, environmental and ethical performance and continuously support our suppliers during implementation of the agreed improvement plan.

How we work with our suppliers – a four step approach

RPP is integrated into Ørsted’s global procurement system. We have created a four-step process to work with our suppliers to achieve real progress and continuous improvement.

Acceptance

Our Code is included in all standard Ørsted procurement contracts. When signing a contract with Ørsted, suppliers accept our expectations expressed in the document.

Risk assessment

Based on country risk, category risk and spend, we prioritise business partners for further engagement.

Assessment

We evaluate whether business partners live up to our expectations in our Code by reviewing relevant management system and practices.

Improvement

If there are gaps, we agree with business partners on an improvement plan and conduct due follow up on implementation.

Assessment prior to contract signing for Taiwan projects

For sourcing projects for our Taiwan projects, we conduct assessments of high-risk suppliers during pre-qualification or tender period. This approach is aligned with the HSE Supplier Management team, which evaluates HSE performance (including safety statistics) of our potential suppliers for all markets and projects during pre-qualification and tender period.

Risk based approach and top spend analysis

Our risk based due diligence approach takes into consideration the country risk and the product/service category risk. The country risk data is based on 29 indices from Maplecroft.com. The product/service category risk is based on industry data, NGO reports, media, and our own knowledge.

Based on invoicing countries, in 2019, 87% of our suppliers are based in low risk countries. 13% of our suppliers are based in medium risk countries. Only less than 0.2% of our suppliers are based in high risk countries.

In addition, through our annual top spend analysis, we ensure suppliers that consist 80% of our annual spend are CSR screened or assessed.
