Offshore wind farm Gode Wind 2 started producing power and feeding into the grid

The Gode Wind 2 offshore wind farm started producing power and feeding into the German grid.

DONG Energy Wind Power

DONG Energy is a global market leader in offshore wind. So far, the company has built more than 3 GW offshore wind capacity.

At the beginning of October 2015, DONG Energy inaugurated its first offshore wind farm in Germany: Borkum Riffgrund 1.

DONG Energy aims to install 6.5 GW offshore wind capacity by 2020, and Germany is considered as a core market.

With 42 wind turbines and a capacity of 252 megawatts (MW), Gode Wind 2 will produce enough power to supply approximately 260,000 German households yearly.

Trine Borum Bojsen, Country Manager of DONG Energy and responsible for the offshore wind business in Germany, said:

"It is a huge milestone that we started producing power, and I am glad that with our wind farm Gode Wind 2 we can contribute considerably to the German energy transition."

The construction of the Gode Wind 2 project started with the first installation works at sea in April 2015. To utilize as many synergies as possible and thus saving costs, DONG Energy has constructed Gode Wind 2 together with the Gode Wind 1 offshore wind farm.

Gode Wind 1 and Gode Wind 2 have a total capacity of 582 MW. This is enough to supply power to approximately 600,000 households.
