Strategy and business model

Maintaining our position as the global leader in offshore wind

Our vision is to create a world that runs entirely on green energy. We work to achieve this by developing, constructing, and operating offshore wind and other renewable assets at scale – and doing it in a way that drives positive change beyond clean energy alone.

Our strategic aspiration is to maintain our position as the undisputed global leader in offshore wind, to be the leading workplace for talent in offshore wind, and to be recognised globally as a sustainability leader.

A sharpened strategy

In early 2025, we presented four key strategic priorities that are designed to enable us to deliver on our business plan:
Strengthening our capital structure to maintain a solid investment grade rating.
2
Delivering on our 8.1 GW offshore wind construction programme across Europe, the US, and Asia-Pacific region.
3
Sharpening our geographies and technologies, allocating capital to focus on value over volume, and prioritising offshore wind.
4
Increasing our competitiveness and cost-efficiency, including by rightsizing our organisation.
As part of our recent strategy update, we’ve defined new rolling business priorities that represent a strategic shift in our business model and that will enhance our competitiveness and reinforce our position as the market leader in offshore wind.

Focusing on European seabed-fixed offshore wind

Europe is the home of offshore wind. It’s where we started this industry, where the majority of our offshore wind farms are located, and where markets, infrastructure, and political support are most mature. Our core European markets are the UK, the Netherlands, Germany, Poland, and Denmark.

We continue to pursue select offshore wind projects in Taiwan, Korea, and Australia. We’re maintaining our presence in the US, where we have a profitable onshore wind and solar business, in addition to our offshore construction projects. We will keep optimising our bioenergy business in Denmark.

A leading workplace for talent in offshore wind

Talent and culture have long been at the core of our strategy. We want to remain in a position where we have the right capabilities, mindset, and agility for the task. We remain committed to attracting, developing, and retaining talented people who can sustain our competitive advantage. We’re continuing to invest in leadership development, strengthening talent pipelines, and fostering a high-performance culture built on collaboration and performance management.
Our talent strategy is supported by our sustainability profile, as people increasingly look to work for organisations that demonstrate a genuine environmental and social responsibility.

A globally recognised sustainability leader

Our renewable energy projects require energy and materials, and space on land and at sea – all of which are constrained. They also require continued public support throughout their life cycle. Sustainability is key to our competitiveness, resilience, and social licence to operate. We can only supply secure, reliable renewable energy if we develop, build, and operate our projects in an environmentally and socially responsible way.

Our sustainability work focuses on three areas:

  1. Decarbonisation - reducing our full value-chain emissions to net-zero by 2040 and supporting demand for renewable energy solutions.
  2. Biodiversity - delivering a net-positive biodiversity impact from projects commissioned from 2030, helping protect nature and ensure access to land and sea.
  3. Community impact - bringing tangible benefits to local communities, fostering wellbeing, inclusion, and support for renewable energy.
