Electrical Engineers for Career Acceleration program supporting US green growth

The Electrical Career Acceleration program 

We offer you an intensive three-year development journey across locations in the US and Europe with a mentor to guide and plan your career. You’ll get concrete career opportunities upon completion and a unique chance to be part of a new US Offshore Wind Electrical team. We’ll plan your journey through different departments to ensure that you gain valuable cross-functional experience and build a strong internal network. As part of the program, therell be five different tracks corresponding to different electrical engineering disciplines: 

Your key tasks in the Power Systems track will be to 

  • develop the electrical system design criteria of wind farms with regards to interconnection requirements and coordinate between external and internal stakeholders, including transmission operators, system operators, and project teams 
  • be responsible for ensuring that the electrical design is compliant with US interconnection codes and standards, and for transferring technical requirements back to the design teams in Europe 
  • manage the interconnection study process from initial application through the large generator interconnect agreement, including review of the PSS®E and PSCAD studies, preparation of electrical system design reports, and grid code compliance testing and verification 
  • support projects and business development opportunities in the US. 

Your key tasks in the HV Components and Protection track will be to 

  • develop protection systems design and philosophy in collaboration with our suppliers  
  • be responsible for ensuring that the protection design is compliant with US standards and transfer relevant technical requirements back to the design teams in Europe 
  • execute and coordinate tasks with project members and suppliers of HV components 
  • align and optimize electrical and mechanical interfaces with key stakeholders 
  • coordinate with stakeholders and suppliers during FAT, installation, SAT, SIT, energization, and commissioning. 

Your key tasks in the Array Cables track will be to 

  • be responsible for the engineering of the HV cable systems that connect an offshore wind farm to the transmission grid, define technical requirements to the specific project, and prepare tender materials 
  • ensure proper design of the cable system, including installation in all aspects in relation to project requirements  
  • identify the right level of quality required during manufacturing, installation, and testing of the cables and accessories during project execution. This includes responsibility for the site-specific system design, testing during manufacturing, and onsite installation activities 
  • contribute to the management of interfaces to a multidisciplinary team involving Procurement, Legal, Engineering and Offshore Construction, and external stakeholders.  

Your key tasks in the Electrical Engineering Management track will be to 

  • be accountable for the electrical scope of an onshore substation EPC contract 
  • coordinate tasks between project participants and suppliers within the electrical and mechanical field and ensure alignment across electrical and mechanical packages i.e. LV/MV/HV/SCADA and mechanical equipment 
  • manage and coordinate internal as well as external stakeholders 
  • follow up on time schedules, progress, and results from consultants and contractors. 

Your key tasks in the Electrical HV/LV Operations track will be to 

  • be responsible for ensuring highest possible availability for the US sites managing the HV/LV Asset Integrity  
  • be part of the team handling the technical aspects of the preventive and corrective maintenance, retrofit campaigns and major component breakdowns, or cable faults 
  • handle engineering assignments  
  • conduct HV maintenance, initial fault finding, and lead minor repairs  
  • ensure operation and safety switching, take responsibility for the work specifications (defects), as well as work and contractor management  
  • implement initiatives to increase efficiency in maintaining the asset integrity and helping the team ensuring business continuity plans are in place  
  • help the team ensure that the O&M requirements for the US projects are incorporated, and projects are efficiently transferred from Engineering to Operations.  

To succeed in this role, you: 

  • will graduate in May 2021 or have recently obtained your bachelor’s or master’s degree in electrical engineering or a related field 
  • have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.8 on a 4.0 scale 
  • speak and write English fluently, enabling you to communicate efficiently 
  • have a strong analytical approach, enabling you to handle a range of complex tasks effectively 
  • are self-motivated, a quick learner, and enjoy meeting new people 
  • can engage with business stakeholders and adapt to a commercial mindset.

Please note that you’ll have rotations in Europe and in Boston, Providence, or Annapolis based on your rotation scheme. It’s our ambition that you gain as broad an experience as possible, and you should therefore expect some traveling in relation to your work.
