Demand green
energy

What can you do to speed up climate action? Where do you start? We know it can be challenging to navigate through the overflow of information and advice. That’s why we’re outlining how you can help make the biggest impact.

Individual lifestyle changes such as recycling and commuting to work on public transport are a great first step. They help reduce emissions and send a strong message that you care about climate change and that others should, too. But it’s not enough to want to halt climate change.

Today 73% of global greenhouse gas emissions are energy related

Because emissions from fossil fuels are a byproduct of almost everything you do; heating your home, turning on the oven, travelling by plane, making a call, and shopping online. Our current way of life depends on energy from fossil fuels.

To reduce global emissions at the rate required by science, we need our energy systems to shift from a reliance on fossil fuels to using renewable, green energy. Through systemic  change, we can create this world, and enable our daily lives to run entirely on green energy.

This is what you can do to create systemic change:

Demand Green energy from your politicians

Ask the politicians you support to take action to phase out fossil fuels and speed up the build-out of green energy technology. Write them a letter or email, contact them on social media, call them or let them know when you vote. Track your country’s progress on Climate Action Tracker.

Demand Green energy from businesses

From banks to beer makers, ask the businesses you engage with what they are doing to reduce their carbon footprint. You can ask them in person, on social media or view the RE100 list to see if they have already made a commitment to using green energy. If everyone starts asking the question, businesses will start feeling the pressure to speed up green action.

Demand Green energy at home

Make the switch to green energy at home and make the smarter choice for our planet. Act now and call your energy provider to ask if they can offer you a green energy solution. If they can’t, switch to a green energy provider today.

Demand Green energy at work

It can be hard for workplaces to know where and how to start being green. Help your workplace take the first step by talking to your manager about using the World Wildlife Foundation (WWF) Green Office guidelines to create a green action plan.
