Public affairs, regulatory and legal

Director of UK Stakeholder and External Affairs

Imagine a future where you shape our future energy system, positioning our trusted voice at the highest levels of government

Join us in this role where you’ll lead our teams of regulatory, public affairs, and stakeholder experts, partnering with the business and colleagues across our global footprint to shape and deliver the external business environment we need to continue shaping the UK’s green transformation and achieve our ambition to remain the UK’s trusted voice in the drive to net zero.

Welcome to Environment, Consenting & External Affairs

You’ll be part of Environment, Consenting & External Affairs where you, together with your colleagues, will oversee our work to build our access to key government decision-makers, shaping and influencing the future policies and regulations that will unlock our business growth, and positioning us as a trusted partner so that we have the support of the communities where we operate. This is a highly influential role, at the heart of building the business platform to deliver our business strategy in the UK across offshore, onshore, Power-to-X, and other emerging low-carbon technologies.

You’ll play an important role in:

  • developing innovative regulatory solutions, and the influencing strategies needed to get our voice heard, as the energy transition gains pace
  • developing stakeholder strategies at multiple levels (strategic, tactical, national, regional, and local) to protect and enhance our business activities
  • shaping our relationships with politicians and senior officials across multiple government departments, regulators, and other parties
  • supporting the Head of Region and senior management team on external engagement and stakeholder management, working together to shape our key messages
  • shaping our profile in the UK, working closely with the Media, Brand & Communications Team, so we can outperform in an increasingly complex competitor landscape.

To succeed in the role, you:

  • are deeply curious about making sense of the UK’s electricity and wider low-carbon regulatory regimes, with the ability to rise above the complexities to maintain focus on the big picture
  • have a strong teamworking ethos, bringing leadership skills to an internally complex role
  • have a caring mindset to lead a diverse and growing team, playing a full role in the Environment, Consents & External Affairs Management Team
  • are an original thinker with natural curiosity, challenging the status quo both internally and in the external environment, bringing an innovative mindset to the team’s work
  • are perseverant, with the ability to stay the course through often long, complex and, at times, frustrating engagements with regulators and other stakeholders
  • are competent at building and maintaining strong networks, both internally and externally, in a highly networked area of the business.
